Provide Emission Data Directly

As a trader, you can directly provide emissions data in kolum for the goods you supply to your EU buyers without relying on suppliers to enter it themselves. This is the fastest way to fulfill buyer data requests while maintaining control and protecting your supplier network.

When you enter emissions data directly:

  • Your buyers get the emissions values they need for compliance and reporting.

  • Your supplier identities remain confidential.

  • You maintain control over the accuracy and consistency of the data provided.

This method is ideal if your suppliers have already shared emissions data with you offline (via email, Excel, or other channels) or if you have emissions values from your own records.

Why This Matters

Providing emissions data directly helps you:

  • Fulfill buyer requests promptly.

  • Avoid delays waiting for suppliers to respond.

  • Ensure that emissions data is provided exactly as you intend.

  • Keep supplier relationships private while meeting buyer compliance needs.

Using kolum for direct entry means your data is organized and linked to the relevant articles, avoiding scattered spreadsheets or manual follow-ups.

Before You Start

Check the following before you begin:

  • Your EU buyer has added you as a trader and linked articles to you in kolum.

  • You have the emissions data (direct and indirect emissions) ready for each article you plan to update.

  • The emissions data you have aligns with the CN code and production method for the relevant articles.

Where to Start

  1. Log in to kolum.

  2. Navigate to the Buyers section in the sidebar.

  3. Click on the buyer you want to provide emissions data for.

  4. You will see a list of articles your buyer has linked to you.

  5. Click “Provide Emission Data” next to the article you wish to update.

How to Enter Emissions Data

Once you click “Provide Emission Data,” you will see a prompt to select a method.

  • Choose “Enter Emission Data Directly.”

  • Fill in the required details:

    • Country of Origin of the goods.

    • Production Facility (optional, if applicable to your data).

    • Volume (in tonnes) (optional, if applicable).

    • Production Method matching the method used for the emissions data.

    • Direct Emissions (tCO₂e per tonne).

    • Indirect Emissions (tCO₂e per tonne).

Double-check your entries for accuracy, then click Save.

Your buyer will be notified that emissions data has been provided. They can review and either accept or decline the data.

What Happens After Submission

  • The emissions data you entered will be visible to your buyer for the relevant article.

  • Your buyer will not see any supplier details or the source of your emissions data.

  • You can edit or update the emissions data later if you receive updated information or corrections from your suppliers.

Tips for a Smooth Process

  • Review your data carefully before submitting

  • If you have many articles to update, prioritize high-volume or high-priority articles first.

  • Use this method to manage your timeline and reduce follow-ups with suppliers when data is already available.

Common Questions

Will my buyer see my supplier details?

No. When you enter data directly, your buyer only sees the emissions data linked to the article, not your supplier identities.

Can I edit the data later?

Yes, you can update emissions data at any time if new data becomes available.

What if I don’t have emissions data?

If you do not have emissions data, you can use kolum to request your suppliers to provide the data directly instead.
