Provide Emission Data as a Trader
As a trader, you are responsible for ensuring your EU buyers receive accurate emissions data for the goods you supply while maintaining full confidentiality of your supplier network. kolum allows you to collect, manage, and share emissions data efficiently, aligning with regulatory needs and your buyers’ requests, without exposing your suppliers or business structure.
When you use kolum:
Your buyers see the emissions data they need, but never see who your suppliers are.
You can choose to provide emissions data directly if you already have the data.
You can also collect emissions data from your suppliers while maintaining control over what is shared.
Using kolum to manage emissions data helps you build trust with your EU buyers while protecting your commercial relationships and competitive positioning.
Why This Matters
Providing emissions data through kolum:
Meets your buyer’s compliance requirements seamlessly.
Protects your supplier relationships by keeping supplier details confidential.
Organizes your emissions data in one place, linked directly to the articles you trade.
Demonstrates your commitment to transparent and responsible trade.
You remain in control throughout the process, deciding how data is collected, reviewed, and shared.
Your Options in kolum
When your buyer requests emissions data, you have two flexible options in kolum:
1. Provide Emissions Data Directly If you already know the emissions values for your goods (either provided by your suppliers offline or calculated internally), you can enter these values directly in kolum under each article. This is the simplest and fastest method, giving you full control over the data you share with your buyer.
2. Request Your Suppliers to Provide Emissions Data If you prefer your suppliers to provide emissions data directly, you can invite them to kolum to submit the data under your supervision. You can review and accept the data before it is shared with your buyer, ensuring quality while keeping your supplier identities private.
What You Need Before Starting
Before you begin providing emissions data, ensure:
Your buyer has linked the relevant articles to you in kolum. You will see these articles listed under each buyer when you log in.
If you plan to collect emissions data from suppliers, your suppliers are ready to provide this data and can accept your invitation to join kolum.
You have the emissions values available (direct and indirect emissions) if you wish to provide data directly.
How This Works
When you log in to kolum, go to the Buyers section in the sidebar.
Click on the buyer you wish to provide emissions data for. You will see a list of all articles your buyer has linked to you.
For each article, you will see a “Provide Emission Data” button.
When you click this, you will be prompted to choose:
Enter Data Directly if you have emissions data ready.
Request Supplier Data if you wish your suppliers to enter data directly.
Once data is submitted:
Your buyer will receive a notification that emissions data has been provided.
Your buyer can review and either accept or decline the data, ensuring alignment with their records.
Your supplier identities remain hidden throughout this process.
Maintaining Supplier Confidentiality
A key feature of kolum for traders is that your suppliers’ details are never visible to your buyers. Even when you invite suppliers to enter emissions data directly:
Your suppliers only see your requests and enter data for you.
Your buyers only see the emissions values, not who provided them.
This protects your business relationships while fulfilling your buyer’s data needs.
Choosing the Best Option
If you want speed and control, use Provide Emission Data Directly to enter emissions values yourself.
If you need data directly from suppliers while protecting your relationships, use Request Your Suppliers to Provide Emission Data. This ensures accuracy while retaining confidentiality.
